To Jood with love…

Little Jood,

Even that we have not met or talked before, but we feel we know you well, and really we can not wait more for you. Maybe in the eyes of your doctor and my blog readers you are a black-and-white sonogram, but really love and passion made me & your mom realize you present in each and every moment in our life since the day we figured you out.

Little Jood! You will be our first child, which means all care, nurture, and dalliance will be going towards you, not only from me & your mom, but also from the whole family; starting from your passionate grandma's, grandpa, aunts, uncles, all their naughty sons and daughters, and their friends and neighbors as well! You, being the youngest child in this big family means you will have so many slightly-older kids to play with and learn from. With them, you will discover the world in your own way, and make your remarkable adventures.

Eventually, they’ll be jealous of how we let you do things at a much earlier age than they got to do them. By time, you’ll compete and fight in many good & bad things; who eats his/her meal first... who is the best in school... who is going to sit in the front seat in your grandpa's car and who gets the last piece of cake.

Your full name is Jood M. Khawaja. We named you Jood because we believe it is the generosity of Allah having you, and called you Joode to always remind you that you are the one and only Jood that we will have. Your mom is pleased that you will be able to write your name with those double 'OO' in very funny artistic ways; two squint eyes, two smiley faces, two lovely hearts, or in any style that reflects your own personality.

Looking at you in your crib, I’ve been overwhelmed by my love for you. Your fascinating fashionable clothes make me & your mom imagine how cute you would be dressing these little "things" with wonderful lively colors.

Parents talk about what they want from their kids. It starts right after a baby is conceived and doesn’t ever stop. When we told people your mom is pregnant, often they asked, “Do you want a boy or a girl?” We told them we wanted a healthy baby. Some parents know what they expect from their kids when they start school, or even what they want their kids to be when they grow up.

My wants are much less specific. I want you to be a confident Muslim lady. I want you to learn who you are, decide for yourself, and be satisfied with your own choices. I want you to experience life and find your own way in a world that can be confusing… painful… wonderful… and breathtaking. I want you to have friends and family that support, respect and love you.

I want this post to be a written proof of that support and love we promise to give you...

Awaiting You,
Mohd & Hama..

Simply Amazing!
Salmu ALikom, Muslims around the world!

We belong to a global religion, which inspired and still inspires millions & millions of people in almost everywhere.

Cave of ThaurWhen Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), & his companion Abu Baker hid in Thaur Cave, along their way from Makka to Madina 1428 years ago, would any Muslim at that time -including Abu Baker, imagined he/she is part of a religion that will grow this BIG? I doubt that. And yet here we are today. Isn't that simply amazing!

Few days ago, I have met a group of highly educated professors from leading universities in USA, at the ACOR (American Center of Oriental Research), this meeting was the last slot in their fruitful program, through which they learned quite many issues about Islam and the Jordanian/Arabic culture.

I loved the way they were discussing issues related to unemployment, women labor, quality of education, and ambitions of Jordanian youth. On the other hand, we (the Jordanian youth) were curious to ask them about their feeling toward what is happening in Iraq and Palestine, and how their clear understanding of these issues -as Americans- could make a difference!

The youngest person present in that discussion was "Nujoud". Even if she is still at school, she was really very enthusiastic to present her emotions toward the message of Islam and the prophet Mohammad (PBUH). At the end of the meeting, "Nujoud" distributed out an English edition of the prophets last ceremony in Hajj, and highlighting on many parts of his ceremony that we do emphasize on we introduce Islam to non-Muslims.

Photo from the meeting @ ACORDuring the same discussion, "Mariam", a young Jordanian lady stated: "An attitude I hate so much in both western people & extremists is that They want you to change to gain their respect", she said, "but I believe that we should respect each other as we are!, shouldn't we?". Most of the attendees agreed on Mariam's point of view, and considered this problem as a major barrier we have in mind when we talk to people from different cultures and backgrounds.

In the holy occasion of Hijra (The migration of the Prophet Mohammad from Makka to Madina)… there is a question pops up in my mind:

Khawaja.. Can not you make your life "simply amazing"?!

.... How about you (readers of this post)? What is your "simply amazing" story?
Don't you have things that you've underestimated when you started to work on, and now you are very proud of?

What are the initiatives you've taken in your life while just a "few" stood beside you and believed in you, thus, you started working hard (with confidence) till they become a "simply amazing" achievements.

The "Simply Amazing" story of Islam's early days injects courage in me, to be more persistent in life and meet challenges I face whenever I start something new.

Wish you a "simply amazing" happy new year!

"Miss Muslim"... Brains not Body Criteria!

"Miss Muslim" Dilar SadiqovaMorality and impressive knowledge of Islam and other subjects were the basic criteria for choosing Dilar Sadiqova as "Miss Muslim" in the eastern European country of Tatarstan.

"I decided to take part in the competition to convey the message that you can be a Muslim and still do whatever you want as long as it is moral and respectable," Sadiqova told reporters after her acceptance speech.

"Thus, non-Muslims can have an undistorted vision of our religion," added the 17-year-old high school student, who wishes to become a school teacher.

There was no room in the competition for girls in swimsuits as seen in traditional beauty pageants, but only modestly-dressed and hijab-donned girls in demure smiles, the organizers told IslamOnline.net.

Brains and religiosity set the tone for the unprecedented contest in Tatarstan, where Muslims make up 60 percent of the country’s four million population.

The competition included Qur’an memorization and recitation tests, as well as a set of questions, testing the cultural knowledgeof the 56 contesters.

They also took cooking and sewing tests for more points.

Only eight girls, aged 15-19, made it to the finals of the cut-throat competition.

The ceremony was held at the Celebrations Hall of the Grand Mosque in the capital city of Kazan . The audience were all females.
